Events Management students from the University of Plymouth have been putting theory into practice by working with Drake Circus to organise a special shopping event. On Tuesday 2 February 2010, Drake Circus shopping centre will be opening its doors to students between 6pm and 8pm. Thirty-two of Drake Circus' stores will be open on the night, as the centre aims to build strong links between itself and the student community.
There will be plenty of entertainment on offer throughout the night, with attendees able to enjoy a live DJ set, ride on the ‘bucking bronco', or have fun in the games areas. In addition, the first 100 students through the doors will receive a free drink, as well as pick up plenty of freebies and giveaways. Those with valid NUS cards will also benefit from substantial discounts.
A similar event in 2009 attracted a footfall of over 6,000, and it is expected that this year's event will exceed this.
Final year Events Management student and organiser, Alex Ludlam said; "It's been a great experience for us to be able to work alongside Drake Circus, and together we've been able to create an event which will be enjoyed by all the students in Plymouth".
The event will be assessed as part of their final year modules. Fellow student organiser Andrew Pitts said; "It's important for us to gain experience, and put the theory we have learnt in the classroom into practice. We are grateful to Drake Circus for allowing us this opportunity".
Mike Jones, general manager at Drake Circus, added: "We are delighted to be able to support University of Plymouth students in this way. Our student events are usually very well attended and hugely successful, and we are looking forward to this one organised by the Events Management team."
